Melt the lard in a saucepan on a very low heat, then add the birdseed and Craisins®. Take off the heat and stir until the dry ingredients are evenly coated in lard (the mixture will be loose but it will harden up when it cools). Now put the mixture into the fridge for 30 to 45 minutes or until it’s cool and firm enough to handle.
You can either make free-standing fat balls, or ones with pine cones that can be hung from a tree. If you’re making balls, scoop out the mixture and roll i nto shape using your hands. If you’re using pine cones, tie string to the tops first so you’re able to hang them up, and then pack the mixture into the cracks.
Now put them back into the fridge to fully set for an hour.
